Here are the Translated lyrics---
Bulla Ki Jaana Maen Kaun
Says Bulla, who knows who I am!
I am not in the mosque of the believer,
Nor in false rites.
I am not in the pure or the impure.
Neither Moses nor Pharaoh.
Says Bulla, who knows who I am!
I am not in the vedas or holy books,
Not in drug or wine.
Not in the drunkards wasted intoxication,
Not in wakefulness or sleep.
Says Bulla, who knows who I am!
I am not in sorrow nor in joy,
Neither in clean nor unclean.
I am not water, I am not earth,
I am not fire, I am not air.
Says Bulla, who knows who I am!
I am not from Arabia or Lahore,
Nor from India or Nagaur.
Neither a hindu or muslim from Peshawar,
Nor do I live in Nadaun.
Says Bulla, who knows who I am!
I cannot be unearthed in the mysteries of religion.
I was not born of Adam and Eve.
I am not the name I assume.
I am not in stillness, not in movement.
Finally, I only know myself.
I cannot know any other.
Who could be wiser than I?
Bulla asks, who then, stands here?
Says Bulla, who knows who I am!

Bullah Shah da Kissa...
Rab nu pawn di Rah pucchan vaste aya si
Bulla Shah da Kissa...Rab nu pawn di Rah pucchan vaste aya si
Bullah as you may know was born in the 17th Century in Lulani, between Lahore and Kasur. His father Mohammaed was also a reputed Dervesh. His early days were passed in company of saints - Vedantists and Sufis primarily.
He did very austere SADHNA (or meditation).
Sometimes he would go to secluded corners of the pind and most of the time he was on the banks of the river to carry on his meditations amidst quiet and calm surroundings.
The result was that he became very thin, emaciated and almost pale faced. He was silently and constantly repeating the NAME of the Lord and crying" tell me where can i find Thee?"
And he seemd to hear a voice in reply say" Seek my Lover and ye shall meet me there."
Thus leaving his house as a pilgrim without any belongings, Bullah proceeded in search of HIS Guru. Guru as you know is a teacher which connects you with divine current.
Guru te Chela tradition is very ancient. All elevated people and saints have had
initiation by a Guru (Master). Swami Vivekanand sang songs of praise for his master Rama Krishna. In Iran Zelaluddin Rumi's and Shamsh Tabriz's meeting is well known too - where the recognition of the Guru and disciple cost the former his head. Guru Nanak and his disciple Mardaana also had similar relationship.
Incidentally near Lahore he was drawn to the reputed Shah Inayat who at the time was planting onions in the fields.
As he accsoted the saint while he was sowing onions, the short but memorable conversation ensued:
Shah Inayat: Puttar kistra aye si?
(Son how have you come here?)
Bullah Shah: Rab nu pawn di Rah pucchan vaste aya si main
(TO inquire about the Path to the Lord i have arrived here)
Shah Inayat: E te barha hi assan hai puttar.
Rab da ki pawna
Eddaro puttna udhro lawna.
(It is easy to find HIM. It is not the least difficult.
Sever at this end (from the world) and join at the other (With God).
Bas othe hi Guru te Shishya (in Punjabi Sikh) di pehchan ho gayi.
The disciple recognized the TEACHER, rather the Teacher accepted his disciple.
So next time you see a poor and simple peasant be watchful.. kithe Shah Inayat varga guru na hove.
Bullah served the Teacher with great zeal and asiduously.
Complete surrender and service of the Teacher with a life bubbling
with total RENUNCIATION and unswerving devotion to Lord (Bhakti) gained
him the GRACE of the Lord and the Teacher.
Bullah became an adept and unable to control his joy he began expressing his divine experience before the uninitiated. Poor Bullah.. He was lost in joy and people thought
he was singing songs of love but what they didnt know that Sufiana love poetry is the ultimate devotion to God.
But it displeased Inayat Ji and for a time, Bullah was expelled from the hermitage of the Teacher.
To win back his lost kingdom - the shade of the lotus Guru was much interested, and when he became proficient in it, disguised as a dancing girl he went to the congregation of Sufis held at Shah Inayat's place and melodiously sang the following:
[agli vaar koi nachda faquir ya nachdi kudhi dekho te odi ijjat karna ki pata
bullah kis bhesh vich dervesh ban ke aa jaave]
Uth gaye gvanDo rabba ! hun ki kariye
uth chal hun rahnde naahi hoiyaN saath tiyaar rabba
DHadH kaleZoN bal bal utthe bin dekhe didar rabba
bulla shah piyaare bajhoN naa rahe, uraar na paar rabba
I translate in English:
My Lord ! my guru has left me, what shall i do?
He has left me, i must pursue him
The flames of the fire of separation are leaping, without a sight of him
without my perceptor, i have lost both my WOLRDS.
VatnA karsaamaan ranjhe de yaar da ve ArhiYA
Ishaq AllaH di jaat lokaN da mahnaN
Keh val karaN pukar kise nahi rahna
othe di gall ohaaN jaanne kaunn koi damm maardaa ve aRHiyaN
Ajj Ajoki raat mere ghar rahi khaA ve arhiya

laiyan mai haaar shingaar mai tho uTTH nassnaye ve arhiya
bulla shah ghar aayo pyare hoya VAQAT deedaar ve arhiya
I attemp to translate this very complex and subtle poetry::
OH MY DEAR ONE, I SHALL NEVER ANNOY THEE
[he says to his Guru]
Love is of Lord's Nature, born out of HIS Grace,
however it is the object of ridicule at the hands of the people
to whom should i related the TALE of my woe?
All are mere strangers who meet only to pass by
He alone knows the secrets of HIS DIVINE abode, non besides
Tonight is the sweetest, pls stay on with me, oh Beloved
And UNTIE the knot of my heart and sweetly talk to me.
Oh my dear Friend, you have promised to meet me
what have you not stood by your promise.
I offer my life to you, teach me the secret MYSTERY
[jaan qurbaan bhed mai dassaiN arhiya]
i have sought you for LONG, please do not forsake me now
all my friends ask me, is now the time of meeting arrived?
You kill the egoist and also those supplicating before you
you oppress and cause them pain
what does all this mean
[he complains what is trust you give me?
and SAYS ki ittbaar tere pyaar da , ve arhiya]
what faith one is to lay in your love
you clasp those sunk in the quagmire of sin
and i who am filled with piety, you shun?
says Bullah, Oh Dear One, Come to me,
Now it is the happy time of meeting
The sweet melody of the voice, deep depth of meaning, the piercing agony
of separation made Inayat Ji recognize his disciple Bulla, despite the attire
of disguise.
Te ona na pucchya " Bullah e ? [Is it Bullah]
Chele ne jawab dita ' bullah nahi bhulla ' [NOT Bullah but BHULLAH]
[literally meaning the erring one or the one who is LOST (bhullya) ]
An embrace followed and once again Bullah and Inayat were together.
In 1727 , Shah passed away but long before that no differene lay between
the attainments of the two in spiritual sphere.
Bullah's Kafis are still sung with same zeal in all over Sindh and Punjab but
few can appreciate his true Sufi nature.
He laughed at the fake Mullahs and Pandits and like all Sufi saints on ritualistic
discipline.
Bulle nu lokmati deN de, bulle tu jaa bahu Masiti
vich masitaN de ki kucch hundaa de DiloN Namaaz na kiti
baahre paak keete ki hunda... jo andro gayi na pleeti
he said " Go to the mosque and tell the people
it is no purpose your assembling there, if your HEART does not bow in prayer
outside purity is of no avail if your MIND is impure
Bin MurshidoN kaamal bullya, teri evaiN gayi ibaadat keeti
bhat Namaaz te chikkaDH roje kalme te phir gayi sihaayi
bulla shaah shaiH andaro MiliyaN bhulli phire lukaayi...
Even with the perfect teachers's guidance all your prayers are of no use
Such prayers are like unto a bath in muddy water,
such obeissance (or bhakti) is like a dive in the oven
and such repetition of NAME is like painting the coal
I found my Lord in myself
When misguidance i gave up and sought Him here and there, So Says Bullah !!
I bow in your honour for reading this and may Bullah Open up the Path of truth for everyone.........
Most respectfully
