>> Every action has a motive. I really did not get the motive this time.
I remember the first time I got such a mail (some 4 years back), I was a novice then. I read the whole mail and was a bit suspicious about it. I being techy was aware of some spamming, so talked to my friends about it. I think they are doing it to catch the right people who may end up sending their account details to them. I have not heard of any incidents though.

There are various type of emails floating around, like job opportunities in Singapore, marriage proposals from NRIs to catch different section of people. Job Opportunities were the most successful spams so far.

Whenever I see USD in millions, a long mail asking for special request I do this. Recently I saw Philipp Lenssen doing a similar post http://blog.outer-court.com/archive/2007-04-13-n32.html

Hi Aji,

I usually keep reading your blog.
It has been great doing so.

Today, even I received a similar email.

Hello Dear,

FOR YOUR KIND ATTENTION,

Due to my careful search for an honest, reliable and sincere business partner, i got your contact from internet and i ask if you can be trusted not to break an agreement? Still, it took me time to make up my mind to contact you and to offer you this proposal of mine of which my whole life depends on .reply with my direct e-mail address j_cisse@yahoo.com

My name is MISS JULIET CISSE, the daughter of Mr. KABAN CISSE of blessed memory from Zimbabwe, During the current crises against the farmers in Zimbabwe from
the supports of President Robert Mugabe to claim all the white-owned farms to his party members and his followers, he ordered all white farmers to surrender all farms to his party members and his followers. My father is One of the most successful multy farmers in our country and because he did not support Mugabe`s ideas, Mugabes supporters invaded his farm and burnt everything in the farm, killing him and made away with a lot of items in my fathers farm.

Before his death, my father had deposited with FINANCE HOUSE IN ASIA the sum of (USD $6.5 MILLION). After the death of my father, I decided to move to Republic of GHANA where i re-located under political asylum as a refugee to seek for foriegn patner overseas that will assist me to move this money out of THE FINANCIAL HOUSE to your country as i have made up my mind to invest and live in your country.

As an asylum seeker i am not allowed to operate any Bank Account within ACCRA GHANA.I have agreed to offer you 7% of the total sum for your assistance as soon as the money get`s into your account while 5% will be mapped out for any expences that may be incurred in the course of this transaction both local and international.

I want truth and honest to be our watch word in this transaction and please treat this transaction with strictly confidential for the successful out come of it. All I want you to do is to furnish me with your personal phone and fax numbers and also your private e-mail address for easy and urgent communication.

Note that this transaction is 100% Risk free and absolutely confidential.

Thanks and God bless you.
Sincerely Yours,
JULIET CISSE.

The story is seemingly different, but it has some striking similarities

1) It is a Poignant tale
2) Lot of money is left as inheritance(in USD)
3) Both are from African nations(why is it a good idea, they are least connected in terms of communication. It would be difficult to find out about them)
4) Some sort of assistance is required (mainly transfer of funds, using your account)
5) An incentive is paid to use you account.
6) Both are email senders refugees(though the terminology used is different)

Every action has a motive. I really did not get the motive this time.

Do you have any clues?

Hi,
A week ago, the same type of email was sent by a person to some of the forum members in the site with which i am associated to. The moderators in our site sent us msgs regarding this strange emails asking us whether it was a scam or a genuine case. Like you, one of our moderators also replied to the spammer and hey, she also got a reply from the other side. Curiously, I googled the mail and found out that similar mails were posted in various forums with only the names being different.
BTW, your idea of spamming the spammers looks quite good, I would also try it out. ;)
We have a saying in hindi, "Lato Ke Bhooth Baato Se Nahi Maante...." :)
Regards,
Dnana
